Chapter 12 (Angel Falling Softly)
It would be more accurate to say that "Salt Lake County" is approximately fifty percent Mormon.
Thanks to some kind of social centrifugal force or demographic reverse osmosis, Salt Lake City itself is surprisingly liberal and "gentile" (non-Mormon), regularly sending a democrat to Congress and electing a democratic mayor (currently the sedate Ralph Becker; the last mayor was the wacky, BDS-afflicted Rocky Anderson) in the same state that gave George Bush his highest margin of victory in 2004.
And yes, the term "Mormon Democrat" (like Harry Reid) is considered an oxymoron by many residents of the state.
